About
The hotel sits right at the start of St Moritz’s main drag, overlooking the lake – three minutes’ drive from the train station. The resort’s shops, cafes and restaurants are within metres of the front door; a free shuttle runs to the Corviglia cable car.
Built in 1896 by Caspar Badrutt, the man credited with bringing the Brits to St Moritz, Badrutt’s Palace maintains its sense of history. Much of the furniture in the ecclesiastical lobby with its six-metre-high ceiling is original, as is the 19th-century Italian art.
The traditional feel permeates most of the common areas, including the breakfast salon and timber-beamed La Coupole restaurant, formerly Europe’s first indoor tennis hall. These are juxtaposed against contemporary additions such as Igniv restaurant and the spa, which wouldn’t look out of place in a slick Knightsbridge hotel.
